Consultations begin on a made-in-Ontario privacy law for the private sector

The Ontario government began consultations in August 2020 with a Discussion Paper on a potential new privacy law for the province’s private sector. The paper floated several privacy policy concepts also coming up in other Canadian reviews and reforms, including de-identification and deletion, data portability, enforcement powers for provincial regulators and a strong role for consent.
