Province Expands Job Protections for Unpaid Sick Leave

November 19, 2024

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has proposed amendments to the Labour Standards Act, offering up to 27 weeks of unpaid job protection for long-term illness or injury. These changes align with national efforts and include 104 weeks of protection if the illness or injury results from a criminal offence. Similar initiatives, like Nova Scotia’s, provide up to 104 weeks of unpaid leave. See press release.
