Saskatchewan passes Remembrance Observance Act

November 7, 2023

Last week, the Government of Saskatchewan passed Bill 139, the Saskatchewan Remembrance Observance Act, as a way to ensure employees are able to wear a poppy recognized by the Royal Canadian Legion in the workplace if they choose – unless it poses a danger to health, safety or welfare of the worker or others.

The legislation comes into force immediately and provides all provincially regulated workers, including those in the retail sector, with the right to wear a poppy in the workplace from November 1st to November 11th annually. The legislation is similar to that previously passed federally, as well as in both Ontario and Manitoba.
