RCC submits comments on Private Members Bill C-252: Proposed legislation to restrict advertising of foods to children
April 5, 2023Last week, RCC submitted comments to the House Standing Committee on Health on Private Members Bill C-252, the proposed Child Health Protection Act. The Bill would restrict the advertising of certain foods and beverages to children and would enable regulations to further define the prohibition.
RCC’s comments expressed general support for the spirit of the proposed legislation while raising concerns that the Bill could enable restrictions far beyond its intended scope and noting that sufficient time would be needed for both regulatory development and subsequent implementation.
RCC will continue to monitor Bill C-252 and advocate that any requirements are reasonable and focused on advertising that is intended for and directed at children.
