Reconciliation holiday under consideration in Manitoba
July 12, 2022Based on comments from Manitoba’s Premier Heather Stefanson, Manitoba could have a new annual statutory holiday to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in place as early as September 30, 2022. The Manitoba legislature isn’t scheduled to sit until September 28, 2022, meaning quick passage would occur only shortly before the official holiday.
We believe RCC members recognize the importance of reconciliation, however, are looking to clarify from the Ministry that there would be no new legislated restrictions on store operating hours, and statutory pay would only apply to those regularly scheduled to work on that day.
