In mid-March 2023, the federal government released a companion document to the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA), one of three new laws proposed in the Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2022 (Bill C-27). This ‘roadmap’ provides more context on the draft legislation, including on some significant policy areas would be left regulation. View AIDA companion document.
Earlier this year, RCC had called for a roadmap like this to be released. As of mid-April, Bill C-27 is still in the early stages of progress through Parliament. While the roadmap’s influence on the final text of the bill or any regulations, should the bill pass, is unclear, it does help shed light on the federal government’s intentions for national artificial intelligence regulation.
