Saskatchewan government defeats opposition paid sick leave bill
May 17, 2022The government of Saskatchewan has voted against legislating paid sick leave for workers in Saskatchewan, in response to a sick leave bill introduced by the opposition that would have provided up to 14 days of paid sick leave.
The province’s labour minister expressed concern for the added cost burden on businesses this bill would have resulted in, especially following the announcement of the government’s intention to raise minimum wage from $11.81 to $15 over the next 29 months.
