Statistics Canada: July retail sales up slightly month-over-month
September 26, 2023Total retail sales rose 0.3% in July 2023, a 2.0% increase year-over-year, to hit $66.1 billion according to the latest report from Statistics Canada.
The largest decrease in sales was observed at motor vehicle and parts dealers, which fell -1.6%.
Statistics Canada also reported that approximately 17% of Canadian retailers reported their business activities in July had been affected by the strike at the ports in British Columbia. Meanwhile, retail e-commerce sales were up 2.4% to $4.0 billion in July, accounting for 6.0% of total retail trade, compared with 5.9% in June.
