Union Rejection May Impact BC Container Terminal Operations

June 18, 2024

Attention retailers relying on timely imports and exports: Despite ILWU Local 514’s rejection of a lucrative industry offer, BC port operations remain stable (at time of writing). The proposed agreement aimed to boost wages and benefits without employer concessions. No strike notices have been issued thus far, indicating uninterrupted cargo and passenger operations. Meanwhile, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) prepares to address the BC Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) complaint against union conduct. Please contact Greg Wilson, Director, Government Relations (B.C.) gwilson@retailcouncil.org or Matt Poirier, VP, Federal Government Relations mpoirier@retailcouncil.org if you have questions.
