Upcoming Changes to Price Labelling Rules – May 7 Implementation

April 29, 2025

RCC has been actively raising awareness about the impacts of Quebec’s Bill 72, which introduces new labelling obligations for food products sold in stores. Media coverage has been extensive, and RCC participated in major interviews across networks like Journal de MontréalSalut Bonjour98.5 FM, and ICI Première to highlight the operational challenges for retailers.

Despite our efforts, the Quebec Office of Consumer Protection (OPC) continues to broaden the application of these obligations beyond in-store labelling to flyers, websites, and apps – a move that was not discussed during parliamentary consultations. RCC is maintaining strong pressure on the government to clarify enforcement and respect the original legislative intent.

As part of Bill 72, the amendments to the Price Accuracy Policy — increasing the compensation from $10 to $15 — will also come into effect on May 7, 2025. See member notice for more details on how to comply with the posting obligations.
