WorkSafeBC Regulatory Change Implications for Spillage of Consumer Products In-Store

January 14, 2025

Effective February 3, 2025, amendments to B.C.’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulation may impact how hazardous products in-store are managed. RCC and its members will be briefed on this change on January 14, 2025.

Retailers are raising concerns about the expanded definition of hazardous substances, which now appears to include not only products used by staff but also consumer products sold in-store. The challenge lies in managing a constantly evolving list of affected products, creating potential compliance issues for retailers.
