DIGITAL EDITION MAGAZINE AD SPECIFICATIONS



Standard Specs

A digital edition is an interactive magazine that has features like zooming in and out. So, it’s required to have high-quality artwork for advertisements. This should not be confused with online banners which are 72 dpi. Online banners are made for speed and fast loading times on web pages.

 

  • Advertiser supplies the ad, or Canadian Retailer can create your ad (for a $100 fee)
    - For some positions noted below, Canadian Retailer must create the ad. In those cases, the ad creation fee is included in the overall ad price.
  • Any supplied bitmap, vector, or PDF artwork must be 300 dpi.
  • Animated GIFs are accepted on the leaderboard, skyscraper and toolbar positions. However, please be aware that GIFs are compressed and may be viewed at slightly lower resolution.
  • Minimum of 18 pt. font size (depending on font style) is recommended for legibility purposes when viewing digital editions at 100%.
  • Third party tags are not accepted. However, URL click trackers are acceptable.
  • Advertiser supplies URL ad should link to. Email addresses can be used as a URL/web link.

Due to recent changes in online advertising standards, we no longer accept Flash-based (.SWF) ads.

Below is a list of individual ad position specifications.

Large Digital Edition Toolbar

  • 360 x 50 pixels @ 300 dpi
  • Creative accepted: High-resolution .GIF, .JPG or .PNG ad content
  • Ad content can be static (.JPG or .PNG) or animated (.GIF). No videos.
  • No max file size
  • Ad will be in the left-hand side position.
  • Position does not allow for expandable drop-down text.

Digital Edition Sponsorship Max

  • 7.5417 x 9.7917 inches @300 dpi
  • Creative accepted: PDF, JPG, PNG
  • NO VIDEO allowed
  • No max file size

Digital Edition Sponsorship – STATIC

  • 7.6389 x 6.6667 inches @300 dpi
  • Creative accepted: PDF, JPG, PNG
  • No max file size

Digital Edition Skyscraper

  • 200 x 783 pixels @ 300 dpi
  • Creative accepted: .JPG, .PNG, .GIF
  • NO VIDEOS
  • No max file size

Digital Edition Leaderboard

  • 728 x 90 pixels @ 300 dpi
  • Creative accepted: .JPG, .PNG, .GIF
  • NO VIDEOS
  • No max file size

Digital Edition Belly Band (cover or insert)

  • 8.375 x 4.5 inches (2513 x 1350 pixels) @ 300 dpi
  • Creative accepted: .PDF, .JPG, .PNG
  • NO VIDEOS
  • No max file size
  • Ad consists of two surfaces. If one image is supplied, it will be duplicated.\

Digital Edition E-Jolt (603 x 783 pixels)

  • This advertising option is a Flash-based animation of a full-page print magazine ad that may not show on browsers that do not support Flash. Please speak with a Canadian Retailer sales representative for more details about this ad type.
  • Canadian Retailer will create the final ad.
  • Advertiser provides high-res PDF ad content.
  • Ad copy cannot be different from the print magazine ad.
  • Anything smaller than a full page will not work due to Flash compression and legibility.
  • Ads with heavy amounts of text are not recommended.

Digital Insert – Full Page (8.375” x 10.875″)

  • Canadian Retailer will create the final ad.
  • Advertiser provides video and high-res PDF ad content.
  • One page, two surfaces (If one page is supplied it will be duplicated.)

Digital Insert – Full Page (8.375” x 10.875″) with Video Upgrade

  • Canadian Retailer will create the final ad.
  • Advertiser provides video and high-res PDF ad content.
  • Video length: 2-3 mins (one video only)
  • Video size: 550 x 480 pixels ONLY; video will be placed on top of PDF.
  • Video types accepted: .MP4 & .FLV @ 24 FPS (frames per second)
  • One page, two surfaces (If one page is supplied it will be duplicated.)

Digital Edition Flash Guidelines

Due to recent changes in online advertising standards, we strongly suggest not submitting ads in Flash (.SWF) format. However, our digital edition platform, NxtBook, accepts Flash. Advertisers wishing to use Flash format for their ad should understand that not all end users will be able to see Flash-based ads. Please speak with your Naylor sales representative for more details.

  • Advertiser supplies, or Canadian Retailer creates, ad unless otherwise noted below.
  • Double check the URL destination to make sure it works.
  • File must be created/saved in RGB color mode. (Most digital graphics and photos are already in RGB mode; check this by viewing the file properties.)
  • File must be a minimum 300 dpi.
  • Animation must be no longer than 25 seconds (this includes multiple loops).
  • Animation should stop on the last frame OR a stop action will be applied. No continuous loops.
  • Font size should be a minimum of 10 pts for legibility purposes depending on the font family.
