Over the last few years, there has been significant movement on extended producer responsibility (EPR) across the country including regulations and programs for the collection and management of packaging and paper products (PPP), commonly referred to as blue box programs. As of 2020, stewardship program costs in Canada were approximately $535 million dollars and this is expected to increase to $1.5 billion by 2025.
To help members keep track of the rapidly evolving EPR landscape for PPP, we have prepared the following overview of blue box regulations and programs across Canada. Please refer to the regulations for full details/official wording.
