New support for PEI workers and companies impacted by December restrictions

December 10, 2020

Due to the curtailing of restaurant and retail businesses over the next two weeks, the government is offering the following assistance:

Emergency Payment for Workers: Available for any workers or self-employed individuals who have either completely lost their income or have had their hours reduced by at least 12 hours/week for December 7-21, 2020 directly due to the public health order. This is available in addition to the federal income support programs. Applications should be sent from employees directly and the government will aim to turn around payments within a week. Employee Gift Card Program: This is a repeat of a program the government ran in the spring of 2020 to provide $100 grocery cards for workers laid off due to the recent public health order (December 7-21, 2020). Employers must apply on behalf of their employees. The application will be available shortly. More information

Web Presence Assistance: The government has an existing program through Innovation PEI to assist companies in setting up eCommerce sites. The program funding was recently increased and will now provide 50% of eligible costs for eCommerce sites up to a maximum of $2,500, or 50% for traditional websites up to a maximum of $1,000. Innovation PEI staff will prioritize processing of these claims at this time to support any businesses pivoting due to COVID restrictions. More information
