Retailers Support Increased Transparency and Better Protection for Prepaid Card Users

December 3, 2013

OTTAWA - Retail Council of Canada (RCC) supports the Federal Government's intent to provide consumers with more information about pre-paid credit cards so they can make better informed financial decisions.

As retailers, RCC members' number one priority is to ensure consumers are provided with accurate and complete information when making all purchasing decisions.

"Today's announcement by the government to ensure that consumers have transparency in fees and other conditions associated with pre-paid cards is consistent with this philosophy and we applaud them for this initiative," said Diane J. Brisebois, President and CEO of RCC.

"RCC looks forward to participating in the upcoming consultations to establish high-level principles for a financial consumer protection framework for all Canadians," said Brisebois.

Retail Council of Canada ( is the Voice of Retail. Founded in 1963, RCC is a not-for-profit association which represents more than 45,000 stores of all retail formats, including department, grocery, independent merchants, regional and national specialty chains, and online merchants.
