Public advisory update: Canadian certification mark is required on smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

May 13, 2021

Health Canada is reminding Canadians to ensure that their carbon monoxide and smoke alarms meet national safety standards. It is important to check and make sure a Canadian certification mark appears directly on the product, such as CSA, cUL, ULC or cETL.

Products not bearing these markings may not meet the same performance standards as those assessed by laboratories accredited by the Standards Council of Canada and might not operate correctly.

Remember to test your alarms regularly, familiarized yourself with the instruction manuals and check to see that the products in your home have not been recalled for health or safety reasons.
