RCC advocating for reasonable approach to chemical precursor regulations

June 11, 2021

Proposed Regulations Amending the Explosives Regulations (Restricted Components)were published on June 5, 2021, for consultations ending on July 5, 2021. The proposal aims to limit the sale of explosive precursor chemicals that can be used to make homemade explosives found in such products as fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and camping and home improvement goods.

RCC is preparing comments on behalf of its members with an eye towards minimizing costs associated with staff training and record-keeping. RCC is also advocating for a reasonable implementation timeframe, particularly considering the challenges associated with COVID-19 reopenings.

Retailers dealing with relevant products are asked to provide their input on this issue to Katrina Borodenko, Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, at kborodenko@retailcouncil.org.
