Here’s what it looks like when Canadian retailers seek creditor protection

Karl Littler, SVP Public Affairs, Retail Council of Canada, discusses how retailers, in general, are feeling that it would be fair to base rent on a percentage of their gross income as it is more reflective of current realities.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a landlord’s market going forward,” he said. “I’ve certainly heard retailers opine on the virtues of moving to more of a percentage-based rent system.”
