New Manitoba Bridge $5,000 grant program to support retailers impacted by operating restrictions

Following extensive pressure from RCC and other associations, the Manitoba government has announced a new Manitoba Bridge Grant that will provide $5,000 upfront to businesses (retail, restaurants etc ) ordered to temporarily close their publicly accessible physical locations on November 12, 2020 due to the Health Order. The new Manitoba Bridge Grant application portal will be live on Monday, November 16, 2020. The deadline for applications is December 15, 2020.

Manitoba Gap Protection Program updates

The province has announced it will be converting the existing $6,000 Manitoba Gap Protection Program from a loan into a grant, and that it will be relaxing the eligibility rules so people who have accessed federal grants or loans can also access provincial assistance. The program has paid out approximately $60 million to 9,800 businesses in Manitoba. RCC has been calling for these important changes.

Back to Work wage subsidy program

The Back to Work wage subsidy program has also been adjusted. It will now provide immediate, early cash advances of $1,500 per worker hired or rehired at businesses that have previously qualified or already applied. The initiative covers 50% of wage costs between July 16 and December 31, 2020. Employers can be supported to hire up to 20 employees. Applications for this program will continue to be accepted between now and December 1,2020. The balance of payment will be issued by February 1, 2021.
