Dedicated hubs target repeat violent offending to build safer communities

April 19, 2023

The B.C. government has announced the creation of several “hubs” to target repeat violent offenders in retail crime.

This project is intended to create meeting points for police, dedicated prosecutors, and probation officers working with local stakeholders and other existing programs to improve collaboration of information sharing and investigation and enforcement of violent offenders.

The hubs, created through the Repeat Violent Offending Intervention Initiative, will be based in Nanaimo, Victoria, Vancouver, Surrey, New Westminster, Abbotsford, Kamloops, Kelowna, Cranbrook, Prince George, Williams Lake, and Terrace and will serve surrounding communities within each community’s region, co-ordinating responses across the justice system and connecting offenders with the services they need to support better outcomes.
