Rent relief Bill C-9 receives Royal Assent at a critical time – CERS application now available
November 20, 2020RCC is pleased that Parliament passed Bill C-9 at such a critical time for many retailers across the country, especially those in Manitoba and the Greater Toronto Area. Bill C-9 is the legislation that includes the new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) program, introduces the new Lockdown Support program, and extends the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) until June 2021.
Retailers who have suffered a revenue drop can apply for rent support with CERS through CRA’s online application form. Eligible retailers will receive a subsidy of up to 65%. Alternatively, businesses temporarily shut down by a mandatory public health order could get an additional 25% bump up to 90%.
