Collaborative efforts with RCC, VPD, and Justice System stakeholders in BC

January 16, 2024

Premier David Eby launched a new plan to strengthen enforcement to keep those who commit repeat violent offences off the streets. This followed the release of a report by Doug LePard and Amanda Butler to which RCC and many RCC members made significant written and oral contributions.

A new “repeat violent offender coordinated response team,” comprising of police officers, dedicated prosecutors, probation officers, and correctional supervisors, has been created. This group is sharing information and monitoring high-risk repeat offender cases through the criminal justice system.

RCC has launched a working table with Vancouver Police Department (VPD) and retail members who are focused on identifying and dealing with repeat violent and prolific offenders and Organized Crime. The VPD has also taken the lead for organizing retail blitz campaigns and is the ambassador on the National Taskforce to help other police services.
