Import Insights: CBSA’s Latest Valuation Regulations Update

May 14, 2024

Attention Canadian retailers importing goods: Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)  has just released its What We Heard Report on proposed amendments to the Valuation for Duty Regulations, aiming to provide clearer guidelines for determining transaction values. Following RCC’s advocacy efforts, CBSA clarified that resident importers won’t be affected, but non-residents may face increased duty costs. CBSA is collaborating with the Department of Justice to ensure alignment with regulatory intent, considering feedback from industry groups like RCC.  Please reach out to Avery Bruenjes, Director of Regulatory Affairs at or Karl Littler, Senior Vice-President, Public Affairs at with any questions.
