Retail Council of Canada statement on Ontario’s Phase 2 development

June 22, 2020

Retail Council of Canada is pleased with Premier Ford’s announcement that retail businesses in Toronto and Peel will be allowed to resume their operations on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.  Allowing all retailers to open after months of closure, including those retailers located in malls, is good news as they can now shift their focus to economic recovery.  We remain hopeful that retailers in Windsor – Essex Country will be added to the list in short order.

Recent data shows that consumers are looking forward to returning to stores across the province to shop for a variety of discretionary products. This highlights the role shopping plays in our lives, both culturally and socially. It’s a way to feel “normal” again.  Our retailers look forward to providing a safe environment for employees and customers as they welcome people back into their stores.
