Manitoba is replacing most PCR testing with rapid antigen tests and indicated that individuals testing positive with a rapid antigen test should assume they have COVID-19. They do not need to get a follow-up PCR test to confirm, unless they fall into a specific high-risk group or are a front-line responder/health care position.
Until this announcement, getting PCR testing results through COVID-19 testing sites were taking up to a week, creating added disruption and uncertainty regarding attending workplaces. Manitoba, like many provinces, also reduced isolation requirements down to 5 days for people who are fully vaccinated and do not have symptoms.
