Canada’s first-ever climate adaptation strategy
July 5, 2023Last week, Minister Guilbeault announced Canada’s first-ever National Adaptation Strategy to help reduce the risk of extreme weather events and impacts of global warming. As a next step, the Federal Government has committed to working with provincial and territorial governments to ensure coordinated action to protect biodiversity, improve health outcomes, build more resilient infrastructure, and more. These efforts will be important as the Canadian Climate Institute predicts that “…by 2025, the previous 10 years of climate change will have shaved $25 billion off of national GDP” relative to if global warming had stabilized in 2015.
