CCME issues roadmap to strengthen the management of single-use and disposable plastics

September 13, 2022

Further to the federal government’s commitment to achieving the Canada-wide Action Plan on Zero Plastic Waste, the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) has developed the Roadmap to Strengthen the Management of Single-Use and Disposable Plastics to strengthen the management of single-use and disposable plastics (CCME 2019).

The roadmap provides key priority items for further regulatory consideration and provides jurisdictions direction on options related to management approaches like EPR and single-use plastic bans. The roadmap identifies what they consider problematic items such as caps for bottles, take away cup lids, disposable masks, food wrappers and foam food trays.

RCC will be preparing a summary of the document to share with members in the week ahead.
