Newfoundland and Labrador grants expanded scope of practice to pharmacists

The government of Newfoundland and Labrador has announced the implementation of an expanded scope of practice for pharmacists in the province.

This is good news for RCC members with pharmacies as it will allow pharmacists to:

• Extend prescriptions to a maximum of twelve months;
• Assess and prescribe for:
  • conjunctivitis
  • fungal nail infections
  • herpes zoster -shingles
  • uncomplicated urinary tract infection

The government is also investing to support the coverage of the pharmacist’s fees to allow universal access to these expanded services.
