Nova Scotia retailers reminded to request that customers wear masks

May 13, 2021

In light of the current spread of COVID-19 in the province, Nova Scotia retailers are reminded that they need to ask customers to wear a mask if they wish to enter a store. If the customer does not have a mask, retailers should be able to provide alternatives (eg., have disposable masks at the entrance to give to customers who forget, offer to bring an item to the curbside for the customer).

Retailers however are not required to obstruct a customer from entering the store if the customer refuses to wear a mask.

If retailers have questions related to the enforcement of COVID-19 restrictions or if they experience difficulty in dealing with non-compliant customers, they can call the Nova Scotia Department of Labour at: 1-800-9LABOUR (1-800-952-2687) or contact police.
