Ontario proposes administrative penalties for EPR compliance

September 22, 2021

On September 17, 2021, the Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) posted a proposed administrative penalties regulation for stakeholder consultation. The proposed regulation would strengthen enforcement tools to ensure that producers of obligated materials, including tires, batteries, blue box materials and more, comply with collection and end-of-life management requirements. In effect, the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) would be able to issue penalties to entities for non-compliance.

The Ministry will be holding a webinar on October 6, 2021 to consult on the regulation. If you would like to participate, please email RRPB.Mail@ontario.ca. RCC will be preparing a draft submission in the coming weeks for member consideration and feedback. The Ministry’s deadline for stakeholder feedback is November 1, 2021.
