Changes to Ontario restrictions in Hamilton and Eastern Ontario

March 26, 2021

Hamilton moves to “Grey Zone,” Eastern Ontario Health Unit moves to “Red Zone” as of Monday, March 29, 2021 at 12:01 a.m., which means a reduction to 25% and 50% capacity for non-essential retailers, respectively.

Ontario announced moments ago that the following regions will change colour in the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework.

Grey-Lockdown (25% Capacity):

  • City of Hamilton Public Health Services

Red-Control (50% Capacity):

  • Eastern Ontario Health Unit

See RCC’s summary of each colour code and RCC’s Capacity Calculator for Ontario for more information.

A move to the Grey-Lockdown and Red-Control level means capacity will be greatly reduced. For most retailers (non-grocery, non-pharmacy), Grey means 25% capacity defined as “no more customers than the total square metres of sales floor, less fixtures, divided by 16 m2.” Red means 50% capacity defined as “no more customers than the total square metres of sales floor, less fixtures, divided by 8 m2.” Both capacity restriction apply to customers only – employees do not count towards the limit.
