How retail is impacted with Ontario’s cabinet shuffle

September 7, 2023

On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, Ontario Premier Doug Ford shuffled his cabinet in the wake of the resignation of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark. Clark resigned his position after continued pushback on his handling of removing land from the Greenbelt.

The cabinet shuffle is as follows:

  • Paul Calandra becomes the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing (former Minister of Long-term Care). Calandra also maintains his position as Government House Leader;
  • Prabmeet Sarkaria becomes the Minister of Transportation;
  • Caroline Mulroney becomes the President of the Treasury Board (former Minister of Transportation). Mulroney also maintains her position of Minister of Francophone Affairs;
  • Stan Cho becomes the Minister of Long-term Care;
  • Rob Flack becomes the Associate Minister of Housing;
  • Todd McCarthy becomes the Associate Minister of Transportation, and;
  • Nina Tangri becomes the Associate Minister of Small Business.

The change in Transportation is significant. RCC will be connecting with Minister Sarkaria on transportation files including supporting the electrification of the commercial fleet. Many of the other changes have minimal retail impact.
