Québec Language and Business Regulations – End of grace period on November 24th, 2019

October 31, 2019

Since November 24, 2016, amendments to the Language and Business Regulations have been in effect. These are intended to ensure a greater presence of French in the display of trademarks in a language other than French. All businesses in Québec, regardless of their size, are required to comply with these provisions. With this in mind, they must ensure the presence of French using either a generic or a description of the products or services referred to, or a slogan or any other term or mention privileging the display of information about the products and services offered.

Do you display a trademark in a language other than French? Do you have doubts about the display of your trademark’s conformity? Do you work with companies that might be affected? If your answer is yes to any of these questions, here are some tools (French only) to help you comply with the provisions for posting a trademark. You can also relay them and distribute them to companies or partners with whom you do business.
