Alberta announces an extension of public health measures, including maintaining the 15% retail capacity restriction

While current measures have begun to flatten the curve, active cases and test positivity rates remain high across the province, and as a result the Alberta government has announced that they will be extending restrictions for all regions until at least January 21, 2021.

RCC was consulted on the decision and remains supportive of the government’s decision to allow all retail stores to remain open.  Stores must continue to maintain a 15% capacity (not including employees) of Alberta’s fire code allowance.  

Restrictions related to restaurants, gyms, personal services, and other sectors also remain in place until January 21, 2021 as do rules on social gatherings.   The government has committed to providing at least one week’s notice prior to future changes to the current health measures that effect impacted sectors.

Today’s announcement also confirms that students in grade 7 to 12 that are presently under at-home learning measures, will return to in-class learning on January 11, 2021 as initially planned.
