Adjustments health measures in Quebec

February 17, 2021

Following a steady decline in the number of COVID-19 cases throughout Quebec and the upcoming school break, the Quebec government announced adjustments to the restrictions currently in place. In short, the changes relevant to retailers are:

  • The Outaouais region passes to orange zone as of Monday, February 22, 2021
    • In the orange zone, restaurants can reopen, seating a maximum of two adults per table. Adults may be accompanied by their minor children.  Except for fast food, reservations will be mandatory. Restaurants will be required to keep a register of their customers and they will be required to show proof of residence in the area where the restaurant is located.
  • Cinemas will be able to open throughout the province starting, Friday February 26, (respecting health protocols such as physical distancing and wearing a procedural mask).
  • The curfew remains in place, but varies by region (the government has posted a letter to certify the validity of the travel required during the curfew)
    • 8:00 p.m. in the red zone (closing of stores no later than 7:30 p.m.) to 5:00 a.m.
    • 9:30 p.m. in the orange zone (closing of stores no later than 9:00 p.m.) to 5:00 a.m.
  • There are no restrictions to inter-regional travel at this time.
  • Measures regarding restrictions on the number of people admitted to stores remain the same (floor area accessible to customers in m2 ÷ by 20 m2). This does not include employees.
