City of Montreal bans single-use plastics distributed by retailers and restaurants

October 5, 2021

Under a new bylaw adopted September 27, 2021 and coming into force September 1, 2022, all plastic shopping bags will be banned and restaurants that offer take-out or home delivery options will also be required to comply with the regulations.

Note that bags for transporting food within the store, such as fruit and vegetables, are not included in this ban.
