The new federal vaccine mandate’s impact on retailers in airports

October 8, 2021

Last week the Federal Government issued new mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements for federally regulated transportation employees and travellers. These new requirements will also impact certain retailers operating in airports.

Starting Saturday, October 30, 2021, retailers operating in the restricted areas of airports will be required to establish vaccination policies for their organizations. These include:

  • a provision for employee attestation/declaration of their vaccination status;
  • a description of consequences for employees who do not comply or who falsify information; and
  • Meeting standards consistent with the approach taken by the Government of Canada for the Core Public Administration.

After a short phase-in period, each organization is required to guarantee employees are fully vaccinated or they will be unable to work.

RCC will provide further details to members as they become available.
