Shortened isolation period and restricted access to PCR tests in Quebec

Due to the marked increase in the number Omicron cases – which has led to a considerable increase in the demand for tests in screening clinics and significant delays – PCR tests carried out in screening clinics are now reserved for higher priority workers, such as people working in high-risk settings and health personnel.
Individuals who are not prioritized for PCR testing (including retail employees) and who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19, will be able to turn to rapid tests dispensed in pharmacies. If they are unable to obtain these tests, they will be considered to have COVID-19 and will have to follow the isolation protocol in force.
In addition, the Quebec government has announced that the recommended duration of isolation for symptoms consistent with those of COVID-19 is reduced from 10 to 5 days for people who are fully vaccinated if their symptoms subside and they do not have a fever for at least 24 hours.
