De Minimis

With a proposed raise to the current $20 “de minimis threshold”, the price level below which goods are exempt from sales taxes and duties, on top of an already fiercely competitive marketplace, retailers in Canada would face additional massive price disadvantages vs US and foreign online retailers.

Retail Council of Canada is working closely with the Federal government, retailers and retail industry experts to quantify the devastating impact on retailers in Canada, as well as employment and investment that even a small raise to the de minimis threshold would have.
