For RCC members who sell romaine lettuce: UPDATE – New temporary control measure for U.S. imports to begin October 7

UPDATE OCTOBER 1: CFIA has agreed to extend the implementation date of the new temporary control measures for imports of romaine lettuce from the United States to October 7, 2020.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) measure, now scheduled to begin October 7 and run until December 31, 2020, will require as part of the import clearance process that importers of romaine lettuce (including bagged and mixed salads) from the United States to provide either:

  • A declaration of origin confirming that the product does not originate from the Salinas Valley; or
  • A “certificate of analysis” that demonstrates that the product contains below acceptable levels of E. coli.

Details, including contents of the draft certificate of analysis, are available to RCC members.
