B.C delays recycling regulation amendment to expand producer responsibility obligations

November 7, 2023

An amendment to B.C.’s Recycling Regulation has been expected and delayed several times.  The latest information is that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy now expects this to be published in February 2024. RCC anticipates amendments to cover the obligation of online sales; mattresses and foundations; refillable propane and spray foam tanks; fire extinguishers; automotive containers; more batteries; and medical sharps.

The Ministry is expected to release its plans related to the management of ICI (industrial, commercial, and institutional) packaging and paper products in 2025 following the publication of a discussion paper in the coming months.
