Alberta Premier Danielle Smith prepares to announce her cabinet
June 6, 2023Coming off last week’s election victory, Alberta UCP Premier Danielle Smith is expected to use this week for selecting her new cabinet, which will feature a number of new MLAs given several senior MLAs including Health Minister Jason Copping, Justice Minister Tyler Shandro, and Deputy Premier Kaycee Madu, were among those not re-elected.
On May 29, 2023, the UCP retained its mandate, winning 49 of the province’s 87 seats, a reduction of 14 that were taken by the NDP, who will return as opposition under Rachel Notley with 38 seats.
Cabinet is expected to be announced early next week, with key staff appointed and in place by the end of the month. RCC intends to submit meeting requests with key ministers, to ensure that we build on campaign commitments and other priorities important to RCC’s Alberta members.
