Alberta Throne Speech to be read Tuesday

Today UCP leader Danielle Smith will return to the Alberta legislature for first time as Premier. The legislative session will begin with the government’s Throne Speech which is expected to outline her priorities in the short session. The first Act to be introduced will be the Alberta Sovereignty Within a United Canada Act, before being followed by legislation that enables a $2.4 billion inflation relief package recently announced.

The affordability package includes once again eliminating the province’s gas tax for at least another six months, an additional $200 in electricity rebates, and $600 spread over six months in payments to households earning less than $180,000 with children and seniors, as well as those on some income assistance programs.

RCC will continue to engage in legislation that impacts retailers as is announced throughout the session.
