City of Surrey announces single-use bylaw to take effect November 22, 2021

June 7, 2021

Surrey has announced that it plans to implement its single-use bylaw on November 22, 2021.

Similar to many in BC, the bylaw bans single-use plastic checkout bags and mandates a fee of at least 25 cents for paper checkout bags and $2.00 for reusable bags. The bylaw also bans all white and coloured polystyrene foam take-out containers and cups for take-out of food prepared in-store.

The City of Surrey will host virtual information sessions on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM; and Tuesday, June 15, 2021 from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  Those interested can register at surrey.ca/singleuse.
