With most schools across the three prairie provinces closed on Friday, September 30, 2022, for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, communities experienced an escalated interest in recognizing this important time to reflect on the history of Indigenous people across Canada.
Additionally, it was increasingly common for businesses and services to also close, and for retailers and restaurants more specifically to find ways to appropriately acknowledge the day for both their customers and employees. Its expected in coming months there will be growing calls to formalize the holiday, and RCC will continue to engage in these discussions.
