Manitoba government expresses commitment to retail sector

March 29, 2022

RCC met with Manitoba’s Minister of Economic Development, Investment and Trade last week for a discussion on a wide range of issues. The Minister expressed concern for the pressures Manitoba retailers are experiencing around escalating operating costs, supply chain challenges, and labour issues.

At the meeting, the importance of a predictable minimum wage, the importance of acknowledging our past on National Day of Truth and Reconciliation (while not adding new costs to businesses), and RCC’s concern regarding the added expense of a permanent paid sick leave program during a time of significant uncertainty were discussed.

PC Minister Cullen emphasized the government’s efforts to reduce red tape, support Manitoba retailers’ growth, and the government’s plans to announce tools to support the recovery as part of the government’s April 12, 2022 budget.
