Manitoba government says no to “Orange Shirt Day” statutory holiday in 2023

April 19, 2023

Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson says the government has yet to find a consensus on whether to make National Day for Truth and Reconciliation a provincial statutory holiday and advised that it will not be in effect this Fall.

This comes as a surprise to many business associations, including RCC, who had anticipated “Orange Shirt Day” to become a statutory holiday in Manitoba this year and were communicating with government on the preferred employment standard language around the day. We assume this will now become part of the NDP’s platform pledges heading into the Fall election.
