Manitoba retail capacity reduces as Southern Health region moves to Critical Red

November 6, 2020

Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer has announced that as of Monday, Nov. 9, the Southern Health region will move to Critical (RED) on the Pandemic Response System.

Changes in the Southern Health Region mirror those in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region currently under RED, and include:

  • Most retail stores will be reduced to the LARGER of either 25 per cent of the occupancy permit, or 5 person capacity (excluding employees).
  • Grocery stores, pharmacies and personal services have no change and stay at 50 per cent capacity.
  • Bars and restaurants will be closed except for take-out and delivery.
  • Movie theatres must close.

The province recently announced the fines for breaching or failing to comply with public health or emergency orders have been increased to $1,296 for individuals and $5,000 for corporations, as well as empowering more bodies to enforce Health Orders as the province tries to slow the number of new COVID cases.
