Manitoba’s NDP Rejects Payroll Tax Cut, Shifts Focus to Other Tax Reductions

The new Manitoba NDP government has decided against adopting the previous government’s plan to lower the payroll tax, which would have been the first reduction to Manitoba’s payroll in 25 years. This tax against payroll has long been seen as discouraging employers from expanding and hiring more staff. In practicality, the proposed modest reduction would have offered limited relief to most businesses, and RCC remains encouraged and focused on the NDP retaining most other major tax cut commitment made by the former PC government.
