February’s Labour Market Survey Reports Employment Growth

StatCan’s Labour Market Survey, dated March 8, 2024, highlights a rise in employment by 41,000 jobs. Despite this, the employment rate declined slightly to 61.5%, as population growth outstripped job creation. Unemployment edged up to 5.8%, reversing January’s drop. Average hourly wages rose by 5.0% year-over-year to $34.82. The survey also highlighted a growing trend in work patterns, with 13.5% of workers operating exclusively from home.
